Yup, it sucks. But there is nothing we can do about it.

Here in Florida, there are balls of tar washing up on the beaches...it's gross

What i wanna know is how people expect something like this to NEVER HAPPEN. Technology isnt perfect, manufacturing processes aren't perfect, NOTHING IS PERFECT! Things like this are guranteed to happen yet everyone acts as if they never saw it coming. Need i remind everyone of valdez and allllll the others? Listen to the media too much and join in on the needless fervor that is happening right now. Clean it up and move on shit happens.

But damn, you have to admit you feel bad about Louisiana...they have been getting torn apart ever since Katrina...They have peanut butter consistency oil covering their beaches now, and it's only getting worse as the days go bye. There are even reports there that is has been "raining oil" during rainstorms, where oil was actually falling from the clouds onto the streets and homes.

Shadow, even though we knew it would happen, doesn't mean we were prepared for something like this. We weren't expecting something of this size to happen. The amount of oil being leaked is ridiculous, and is much larger than expected. It isn't something that we can just "clean up" in a week or two. It requires a TON of time to clean, and while they are cleaning it, more and more damage is being done to the ecosystem and environment, as well as many industries around the Gulf, such as fishing and small businesses along the beaches.

My uncle who lives in louisiana has no job now. He used to catch shrimp in the gulf but now, he's working at a Mc.Donalds. How the fuck is he going to support his family working at mc.donalds? That doesnt seem to fair now does it?

You should expect it with oil involved with water. Its guaranteed that there will be a large spill at some point or another. The failure of people to realize this leads to freaking out when they could have been prepared well in advance. It's like living in tornado valley. There's guaranteed to be a big fucking tornado at some point so there's no reason not to be prepared in advance.
To me the spill isnt what is fucked up its the lack of advanced preparation thats fucked up

its in international waters, what the fuck say so does the US government have in the matter, and the US military IS in charge of the clean up, the US Coast Guard. The US government has refused outside help up until now, and I forgot the numbers but it was something like 79 countries and 39 private parties offered to help and our government REFUSED! WTF is wrong with that picture.
And I couldnt agree more with Shadow, shit happens and while it is unfortunate usually not much can be done to protect against every contingency. So a little bit of oil gets spilt, think of the VAST amount of oil processed every day and the enourmous size of the ocean/earth. A little fuckin oil, oh well

there are certain environments in the gulf coast that the oil is killing. many species of animals are dying off and becoming more and more endangered. now i no u could care less about the animals but all those fishing jobs are gone for the people in the gulf and that means, like always, less jobs for the american people

LIke i said the fact that there is a spill doesnt really bother me cause i knew it would happen. What i don't get is how despite how foreseeable an incident like this is there's no contigency fund or plan that was already in place for these types of events. I mean....EVERYONE should know that an oil spill can and will happen at some point....so why wasnt anyone ready for it? SLACKERS! xD

What do you expect us to do in preparation? Have hundreds of vessels with the capability to clean up masses amount of oil with thousands of trained crew members on hand like minutemen? We don't have the money to pay for anything like that. There was basically nothing we could do to prepare for an oil spill as large as this one.

Got_Shot, what do you mean a little bit of oil? BP has admitted that the oil can be leaking at a rate of 2.5 MILLION gallons per DAY, and you call that little? You can't compare to the whole ocean, because the oil is not spread across the entire world's oceans. It is being contained in a single body of water, the gulf. The amount of oil compared to the water in the gulf is A LOT.

ok shadow interested and agree.... but i dont understand how you fail to see BP has more money on hand, than what we do (w/o borrowing). the clean up is being miss handled and it not going away any time soon. we the american gov are not bleeding out the ass on this (thats good). how ever we are living in the bio hazard BP is creating.............

and you lil "got shot" are not worth my response. ur facts are so wrong lol

that depends entirely on what news corporation's  facts you are receiving. Try watching Fox News if you want to hear the other half of the story

fact is, the government steped in to take control of the situation and it took them SEVENTY DAYS to accept international help, including equipment and money. That shows a major failure on the part of our government by not accepting help that would speed up the cleaning process and help to keep it from burdening AMERICAN taxpayers, when the spill happens to lie in International waters, not US waters.
And @doorknob, im refering to the contaminted volume of water in relation to the ocean as a whole, not the amount of oil disperesed throughout the entirety of the ocean. the world is not going to end over this spill, it isnt even the largest spill to occur in the Gulf Of Mexico by most measurements
