The first. You can never beat the origional. That only happens with Team Fortress.

I like the RTS deal of it. Mainly because my friends are all getting it, and I managed to beat Heroic with Warthogs Only.

So far I have managed to beat the game with the following units only on Heroic:

Normal Marines (As in, not Spartans/Flamers)
Normal Grunt Army (Not jackals/hunters)
Ghosts
Warthogs
Spartans (Holy fuck this was hard.)
Flamers
Honor Guards (These guys are worthless against warthogs, much less tanks.)

Sadly, I know what you mean. There are still a few good ones out there, but a lot are being torn away to make FPS games instead.
