| Forum Rule Suggestion | Double Posting
« on: February 06, 2012, 09:32:58 PM »
I would like to see a rule that allowed a limited amount of double posting because there are certain situations where the modify button isnt sufficient.

Perhaps the modify button could cause the topic to become a *new topic and move up the list of recent topics. that would solve this issue.

Ive got a couple ideas I have thought of, even though i understand that I may not have a leg to stand on with any of them
  •    #1.  -Everyone is given one double post allowed per day/week(whatever) or per topic or number of topics
  •    #2.  -You may only doublepost 24hours after your previous post, 3 days after that for a triple, and 9 days for a quadruple and so on
  •    #3.  -You are only allowed to double post if you're previous post is relatively long in word count, or you're the creator of the topic

Let me know what yall think of these ideas, where there right/wrong and what to add

The problem I can think of is that it would create a complicated system. Admins, members, or supporters would have to keep track on the amount of double posts and so on. If there was a way to implement a system where it tracks it, then this would be an ok idea. But I'm guessing that creating a system like the one I mentioned would slow down the website or would be hard to create.

Well people would have to keep track of the double posts and such. I don't know if it would be efficient. I do like the idea of the modify button putting the topic back to the recent topics.

the rules on our forums need to be easy to fallow what you have presented is very confusing. for the average poster a blanket "no double posting" is easy and keeps those who are trying to build their post count up from over running our forums. now an occasional bump on a topic has not been minded. if your topic has fallen off the charts that means no1 really cared about it but yourself..............

i like our rule no double posting i vote no change.

I would agree with not changing it, but I broke that rule today anyway  ::) (when I did so I was posting again because I thought my new post was important enough to give some notice to anyone responding to the topic - rather than modifying my post which the readers wouldn't necessarily see)

Out of those options, 3 is the easiest to enforce I think, but if your post has a high word count wouldn't you just add it to the end and try to make it stand out in some way?

I've seen multi-posts gone rampant on many occasions, and I can tell you now that it's not a good idea to have this kind of setup. People would find some way to abuse it, and things would get hectic. I vote no on this.
I'm going to get up in a minute and walk out of here. That guy in corner behind me, will follow. You follow him. I will follow you. Remember! I've trained for this kind of follow-thing my whole life. So don't fuck it up!!

I don't think all of this is really necessary ... if someone has a good reason to double post people will usually just ignore the fact he double posted ...

but if there is a rule where double posting would be allowed under some circumstance it's just gonna get confusing ...

If u want to post something important so it shows again ... just make a new post & explain why u doubleposted ...

though i agree with you got_shot, but that is extremely confusing and what is more, easily abused. it lets people have a foot in the door. plus it can cause conflict between people on what they feel should have been a modify rather than a new post, etc. it will likely lead to more issues than solutions. though it is nice to give people the benefit of the doubt, a forum, as most other places, needs structure to maintain the quality. as it is now, it definitely is better without the double posting. (IMO) lol  ;)

In my opinion i would want the last option the one about when modified your topic it puts it back up since i know such topics as sprays and other stuff like that usaully is just goes down the list fast.
But then some1 could abuse this i guess by them just modifing it daily  :-X ??? ??? ??? ???
Im confused

Take this topic as being a 90% chance you just state your opinion and a 10% chance that any rules are actually changed

Yea, a rule like that would be hard to follow, maybe not after we get used to it, and that would probably take a while. It would still cause alot of confusion on the forums if we implement it. I say we keep the old rule...
