well it looks like just the founders are in for no more than a year. I bet it will take a bit longer for them to actually take the site down, if they even do. (I'm hoping they don't get the actual site at least...)
And at least it's Sweden that's doing the slap on the wrist instead of the goddamn psychopathic U.S. government who doesn't understand any-fucking-thing.

I lol'd at this post.

Seriously though, Piratebay is used for more than just what the name implies. This can become a serious problem for a lot of people.

Another great site taken down....

Next thing you know; hugs will be censored, you'll be having to pay $2.99 to view a informative website...
Once the government takes over the internet, they'll try to take over T.V.

Be more worried about corporations taking over the internet than the government. Facebook, Google, AT&T, Time Warner, etc.
Thats why they try to get everyone riled up about censorship, because then these major corporations will have to follow rules and hand over their power if something like SOPA passes

I thought SOPA fell short for the time being?

Also, hugs aren't going to be censored, T.V. isn't going to be censored, and sites aren't going to start charging fees. Sites are free because most of the people earn money by allowing ads onto their sites, or by using volunteers. In fact, the only sites I know about that you pay for are porn sites or sites with memberships with them, or places where you can donate (e.g. NotD)

actually if you look up ''internet 2.0'' they're planning to turn the internet into essentially satellite television or cable...only a certain list of ''pre-approved'' sites will be allowed and that's it...everything else blocked or shutdown...easier for them to control content..that's the end result goal anyway...they see the internet as it is...as sort of a ''wild west'' scenario...and what they cant or dont control...they fear...also they lust after control of it since it'd be another facet of power

if you look at the origins of radio and tv and cable tv...it all kinda went the same way...lots of ppl were running stations everywhere for awhile..then came the FCC in to control it all...and cut out what wasnt ''acceptable'' which really means ''favorable''

im hoping this isnt where things are headed...and i dont think ppl will sit still for it...but then again ive overestimated ppl b4

The ones doing the censoring are the owners. Trust me the government makes companies(TV, interwebs, newspapers, magazines) do what the government wants them to do, and the companies are equally guilty of manipulating the government. The government binding corporations by laws merely keeps the whole sha-bang a little more legitimate.
Big buisness and big government are one and the same.

The reason ThePirateBay got shut down was because they didnt invest money into politician's campaigns, didnt have enough people with ties to government offices on their staff, and didnt make necessary concessions to the government.

Anyways, I dont trust my Internet Service Provider anymore than I trust my local Congressman. Businesses and Governments BOTH get what they want, one way or another, nuff said

SOPA and PIPA were but the most talked about bastard "bills" that are designed to more or less destroy the internet. There are LOOOOTS of them still out there. ACTA is one that is huge right now and is just as fucked from what I've read, and actually looks like it has potential to pass.
Also, there is something that has been floating around called the PCIP. (protect children from internet pornographers act) which is basically sopa/pipa with a lovely name that makes you look like a pedophile if you oppose it....although it really is nothing more than internet censorship (I've read that some of the written language/ideas for SOPA came from this one). Those are just a few of them that have been NOTICED by the general public. Unfortunately, it looks like it's just the beginning and if we really want to keep the internet as (relatively) free as it is...or used to be....it's going to be a gargantuan uphill battle for the "peons" like us to try and take on government/corporations.

A lot of speculation has been going around that they are using the tactic of throwing something SO ridiculous, that they KNOW it will get rejected out first, so that when they throw something else out there that is not QUITE as absurd as SOPA/PIPA..people will be all like..."ooh...it's not as bad as SOPA/PIPA..." and be more lax and "willing" to let it pass. But it is still the same end goal of utterly stripping the civilian of any and all freedom....the companies that are sponsoring the censorship of the internet are wilier than we give them credit for, know how to play the politics game, AND have the money (and then some) to back it up. If there was ANY time for the general public to take a firm stance and try to win our freedoms back...this would be a nice starting off point.
