Yea so basically I bsod'd and when my comp went to restart I get a pretty little msg that says boot failure
I have tried booting off disc but it will not boot if the hard drive is in my laptop so idk what I'm going to do cause I ain't got the money for a new hdd
If anyone happens to have a spare 3gb sata drive they don't need u don't know how big of a help it would be to if u could donate it to me...
Anyways I hoe I can get back on soon but until then pce. I'll still be on the forums... got my tablet

Well like I said I can't even boot off a CD when the hdd is in the laptop so I think there is something physically wrong with the drive

So when you say you can't boot if the HDD is installed, what are the symptoms?  Does it read the boot disk and give you the Press any key to boot from CD/DVD message? or does it continually try to boot from the HDD?  I have quite a few drives but unfortunately none for laptops.

symptoms are i press power button, bios comes up and does its thing, it acts like its trying to boot of of the cd (the HDD and disk drive lights flash), bout 10 secs later all disk activity stop and its just a black screen

other than there being physical damage to the HDD which would be hard to see how that happened if its always inside your comp and its not overheating like crazy or anything....

Could it possible be a root or boot error? sometimes malware will attack your boot system making your computer mess up when it goes to restart if not keep it from starting all together....so it may be a registry or whatever type of thing.....

sometimes the way to fix something wrong with the boot is not to us the OS cd but to find the boot bios online and save those to a cd and then boot off of that cd or whatever.....im not completely sure and i may not be 100% accurate just throwing another idea of what it could be out there and hope it helps........

i dont have an extra HDD at the moment nor i doubt you would have wanted my old one since it was riddled with horrid viruses from my buddies comp..but if i see one lying around ill think of you wookie

yea i think it might have been an over heating error... i had an ubuntu vm updating and using up all the drives reasources i finally got it to pause the vm and free up a bit bit then i tried to close a cmd window i had open and thats whe i got the blue screen. but now the bios doesnt even see the drive so im just hoping its the drive thats bad and not the sata connector

i just remember something... about 2ish hours bfore the bsod i just updated the software and firmware for my external 500gb
it ask to restart and i said no but i doubt that has anything to do with it

still just hoping someone has a spare drive

When you start it up are you getting a Boot Menu (F12 or C usually on the toshiba) and selecting the CD/DVD?

What does your bios say about the drive, can you set it to auto detect to see if maybe something got overwritten?

Even with a failed HDD you should be able to boot from CD/DVD.  Are you sure the CD/DVD is bootable?

the cd is bootable now that the drive has compleely died but b4 when the drive was in i couldnt access teh cd
the bios is unable to find my drive at all so idk
