Scary Situation?
« on: December 23, 2011, 10:51:31 AM »
Hey guys. I just wanted to let you guys know that I have a bit of a problem. Last night my dad was with his friend in his car at someplace. When my dad got home, he told my family and I that he got robbed. Apparently there was some man that broke into 4 cars and stole the stuff inside. My dad last his work bag. Now, inside the work bag is the problem. The robber has my dad's passport, house key, car key, address, laptap and pretty much everything. We had to change the lock on our door and I'm kind nervous. Just the thought that a person may come over scares me. Hopefully nothing bad happens and the police helps us get this sorted out. Now, this being said, I will still be on the forums and on steam. See you guys soon.

well now is the time you make sure windows are secure. family pet is kept inside for alerting. lights are left on. and expensive things cant be viewed from looking in a window. might want to have ur dad look into motion detectors.
the person who did this crime is in a category different than a person who is a hot prowler or strong arm. this guy (hopefully) does not confront his victims. any ways flannel will read this and give you the best advice possible.

good luck hunny. this time of year makes people desperate

Damn man that really sucks. we have a similar situation here, people in my neighbor hood are getting robbed left and right, its so random that has never happened that much here, they robbed my neighbor twice in a week, like Sorrow said try to get some motion detectors, my dad got some and they are great, not to expensive either, also if you have a dog (whenever it barks or however your pet detects something look out the window) have something for self defense like a stun gun or a can of pepper spray. Hope every thing gets fixed man.

Tek...
Most of the ideas are good ones.
Obviously changing the locks , installing motion sensors and having a big "sounding" dog inside are good deterants.
I wouldn't worry about the bad guy coming to your house though. VERY VERY VERY rarely does that happen and usually only if your father would have been targeted for his keys. Not one of four cars broken into. That is more of a crime of oppurtunity. The bad guy probably saw the bag through the window and took his oppurtunity to gain something(s) new for Christmas.
The thing of most concern to me would be any identity and financial information that was in the bag or on the laptop. For instance if he uses his laptop to buy things on the internet, log into bank accounts, etc.... those places need to be notified and precautions taken to prevent access to or that type of theft/damage.
I think you can sleep safely.
As Sorrow already said, this type of bad guy is generally a coward and cowards don't like conflict. He wouldn't come to your house where there would be 'conflict'.
Sorry it happened.

Thanks everyone for your words. And thanks Flannel for the advice. I think my family and I are safe because we pretty much got everything taken care of. We got the door lock changed, both of our car locks changed, and plus our insurance company is willing to pay for what we lost.

Hope to see you guys soon.

Guns help mate, Good luck with getting your stuff back.

Guns are not necessarily the answer or the best option.
I believe firearms are tools and have a purpose. Just like a a hammer or screwdriver.
The right tool should be used for the task at hand.
I personally feel a firearm, although comforting as it might be, could be a bad thing for many reasons in this particular situation.
Just my $.02

I agree with flannel on this, firearms are not good unless
the whole house has been trained using it but even then
it can cause more damage then good

i have the simple solution...ill send a few bikes over and park them in the driveway, and ill bet they wont dare pay you a visit...lol
It only takes a second to show someone how you feel about them.
The police call it indecent exposure, but whatever.....

Make memories with me.
Defend our lifestyle with me.
But dont fuck with me...and never mistake my kindness for weakness.
